“Indiana Dunes 101 and Project WILD,” a professional development workshop for educators, will be offered Jan. 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m CST at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

The workshop will introduce participants to a wide variety of supplemental curriculum activities from Project WILD and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. It will also help increase participants’ skills in using the resources with their students at the Indiana Dunes. Activities have been linked to Indiana and national standards.

Participants will receive a guided field trip to the dunes, lunch, the Project WILD Terrestrial activity guide, and education materials from Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

The workshop is made available through Indiana Project WILD, a program of the DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife.

The concept of outdoor laboratories on school sites is popular in Indiana, with hundreds of schools currently developing labs. A great deal has been learned from working with these schools about which procedures tend to be successful and which do not. This resource offer guidance for your school’s outdoor lab.

The award-winning Wild About Turkey Education Box exposes children to the joy of natural resources like the wild turkey and importance of managing this resource properly to ensure it is available for generations to come. The kit contains colorful bulletin board display, "Return of the Wild Turkey" and "Roll Call" video, multimedia CD/CD-Rom with turkey sounds, National Wild Turkey Federation Bulletins & activities, Making Tracks poster, fun anatomical wild turkey poster, K-12 multi-curriculum lesson plans - including math, science, history, English, creative writing, technology/design, and art. Items are contained in a trap and transfer box similar to the ones wildlife biologists use to transfer turkeys

Developed by the IN DNR Division of Forestry's Project Learning Tree and Fire Education programs. Designed for use by educators, youth leaders, and natural resource professionals to teach children about wildland fire. An assortment of wildland fire education materials, including lesson plans, print materials, wildland - urban interface materials, Burning Issues CD-ROM, Smokey Bear materials, and videos are included in the trunk.
